I think I’ve finally found a way to appreciate hojicha even more. Homura a light roast hojicha that still gives you that matcha feel that often gets lost in darker roasts, but with a light, fruity, malted and crisp finish. Tried mine today as Honeycomb hojicha affogato

I was pleasantly surprised by this one! The color is greener than portrayed on the website and the flavor is strong enough to cut through milk and pair with sweeteners and syrups!

The sample you received was from our 2025 harvest lot, while the 1 kg bag was from the 2026 harvest. As matcha is an agricultural product, its flavor, aroma, richness, and texture can vary from harvest to harvest depending on growing and production conditions. Unfortunately, in this case, the difference between the two harvests was more noticeable than we anticipated.
We completely understand your disappointment, especially since you chose the 1 kg size based on how much you enjoyed the sample. We are very sorry that the 2026 lot did not deliver the same depth, creaminess, and richness that you experienced with the sample.
