Both the matcha came in a very dull color. I was expecting a beautiful bright green since its first harvest and has Gokou as one of the cultivar for the Uji no Shiro.
I was really excited but unfortunately it did not meet my expectations

Yame no Hana is the best matcha I've tried among the 6 I've tasted. That includes uji no mukashi and yame no mukashi (higher grade). Its nutty and lovely with oatmilk.
I've tried a few matchas from Wakokoro, particularly Gion, Sagano, Iwakura, Yame No Hana, Uji No Mukashi and Yame no Mukashi. Iwakura is supposedly part of the Signature line. However, I was very disappointed that it was the WORST of the lot. It was chalky/powdery. Did i get a bad batch? The free matcha Sui was also powdery. Sadly, I wasted my money on it. My fav was surprisingly Yame No Hana. Even the more expensive ones were not as memorable.
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback, and we are very sorry that Iwakura did not meet your expectations.
Regarding Iwakura and Sui, both are Uji matcha traditionally ground using stone mills. Because stone-milled matcha is ground into an extremely fine powder, the particles can sometimes cling together due to static electricity, which may create a chalky or powdery sensation if they are not fully dispersed.
For this reason, what you experienced is more likely related to the characteristics of the milling method rather than a particular bad batch. Nevertheless, we completely understand that texture is an important part of enjoying matcha, and we are sorry that these two teas were disappointing for you.
If you still have some Iwakura remaining, we recommend sifting it first, then adding a small amount of room-temperature water and whisking it into a smooth paste before gradually adding water at around 60–70°C (140–158°F). This usually helps the fine particles disperse more evenly and reduces clumping.
We are also very glad to hear that you enjoyed Yame no Hana. Taste and texture preferences can vary considerably between matchas, and we genuinely appreciate you trying so many teas from our selection and sharing your experience with us.
Soooo yummy!! Made a delicious iced latte. Here’s my notes on flavor/presentation: no bitterness, a darker green color, mild umami flavor, mild sweet notes, a nutty and slightly creamy taste. The texture is great as well, No clumping or chalky dust at the bottom of my drink. For the price point you really cannot go wrong with Yame no Hana! Overall 9.2/10
