Experience the timeless craftsmanship of Tokoname-yaki with this authentic Japanese Kyusu teapot. Tokoname, one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns, has a ceramic heritage spanning more than 1,000 years since the late Heian period. Renowned for producing everything from teapots and tableware to architectural ceramics, Tokoname remains one of Japan’s most important pottery regions. In 1976, it was officially designated as a Traditional Craft of Japan under the Act on the Promotion of Traditional Craft Industries.

This handcrafted Kyusu combines centuries of tradition with practical functionality, making it an ideal teapot for everyday Japanese tea brewing.

Key Features

Authentic Tokoname-yaki Craftsmanship

Produced in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, this Kyusu reflects over a millennium of Japanese ceramic expertise and artistry.

Built-in Ceramic Tea Strainer

Unlike metal mesh strainers, this teapot features a ceramic tea strainer integrated into the body of the Kyusu. The all-ceramic construction allows tea leaves to open naturally, helping to extract the full flavour, aroma, and umami of your tea.

Ideal Capacity for Two Servings

With an optimal brewing capacity of approximately 240ml, this teapot is perfectly suited for two servings of tea, based on 100ml per person.

Traditional Carbonized Black Finish

Crafted from iron-rich Shudei clay, the teapot is first fired at 1100°C and then undergoes a secondary carbonization firing at 800°C, which transforms the clay into its distinctive black colour. The clay contains no harmful substances and is safe for daily use.

Easy-Clean Design

The body features a specially designed notch structure that allows spent tea leaves to be removed more easily after brewing, making cleanup simple and convenient.

Hand-Fitted Lid

Each lid is individually matched to its teapot through a traditional hand-polishing process. As a result, slight polishing marks may be visible on the lid and body, a sign of authentic craftsmanship and the precise fit between the two pieces.
